Russian Cosmonauts with Knowsley pupils

Dr Alexander Martynov and Colonel Aleksandr Volkov have a wealth of experience of space travel, Russian Mission Control and orbital research.

The two cosmonauts visited Prescot School in Knowsley Park Lane on Saturday 17th March and gave a talk to pupils on the Gifted and Talented programme of Excellence in Cities.

This unique event is one of many activities instigated by the school following its designation as a Language College.

Lynne Heath, Headteacher at the school, said, “This is really a chance of a lifetime for our pupils to meet cosmonauts and find out first hand what it is like to live in space. Col Volkov is one of the most highly decorated cosmonauts in Russia and is responsible for training future cosmonauts. His experiences and knowledge of weightlessness, how the body copes with zero gravity and normal functions such as eating and walking in space will provide a detailed and very interesting session.”

The event has been organised by Merseyside SATRO (Science And Technology Regional Organisation).
