Celebrities Celebrate Book Week at Alt Bridge Picture: Popular childrens author Malorie Blackman with some of the Alt Bridge pupils who talked to her about her work

"Tell me a story" took on a new meaning recently when pupils at Alt Bridge Secondary Support Centre in Huyton welcomed a host of regional celebrities during Book Week (2nd - 6th July). Granada's Fred the Weatherman joined BBC Radio Merseyside current affairs presenter Roger Phillips and Arts Presenter Angela Heslop to read stories of their choice to youngsters on a special story day on Tuesday 3rd July. They were joined by Vin O'Brian from Liverpool Football Club's Community Team. Acclaimed children's author Malorie Blackman, who wrote "Pig Heart Boy", also dropped in on the Thursday and spent the whole day giving readings as well as advice on writing and story plots. It's all part of a festival celebrating books and reading, commented Ian Chisnall, Headteacher. Books play an important part in our everyday lives and this week gives the pupils the opportunity to hear local celebrities read in person, meet famous authors and take part in our book sale. |
