Knowsley Councillor Fred Curran, set up the trust 10 years ago during his Mayoral year. He said, I am particularly keen to support people with disabilities who live in the borough by providing them with assistance with their training for and participation in competitive sports events. Over the years several thousands of pounds have been given to numerous organisations and individuals to help them take part in sports. Margaret, from Knowsley's Information Technology Divisions helpdesk, is a member of the Greenbank Academy Basketball Club and enjoys taking part in a variety of sporting activities. Margaret said: Im delighted with the new chair, it will help me in a whole range of activities. I play in the basketball team at Greenbank and compete in 5 and 10K races. I also use the gym at Greenbank. Cllr Curran heard that I'd been trying to raise money for a sports chair and invited me to apply to the Trust. Cllr Curran commented, The Trustees are pleased to be able to support Margaret in her activities. The Trust is going very well and it gives me great pleasure to see one of our own employees benefit from it. |
