Primary Colours Early next year there will be an exhibition of work by Primary School children, taking place in Huyton Gallery and Library. Working towards the theme of colour and poetry, the exhibition will showcase the exciting work being produced in the region by its 4-11 year olds. The exhibition is a collaboration between Knowsley Arts Service and 20 primary schools in Huyton. The Arts Service provided each school with an inspiration pack, which included colour theory, examples of artists working specifically with colour and a collection of poetry. All the schools taking part have produced unique pieces of 2 and 3 dimensional artwork. A Splash of Colour The New Year will see an exhibition by respected artist Petra McCarthy at the Kirkby Gallery. McCarthy is a Manchester based painter who, unusually, works with acrylic paint on perspex. Expect to be dazzled by her spontaneous approach, which often surprises the viewer with vibrant psychedelic puddles of colour. She has exhibited exhaustively in the NorthWest and has undertaken numerous commissions in the Manchester area. Martin Nash exhibition Reporters Natasha Clark and Jonathan Birchall recently turned into art critics when they visited Huyton Gallery to check out artist Martin Nash's latest work. His recent work attempts to explore the relationship between two and three dimensional forms. Martin worked with paper and paint to create paintings that in turn became the raw material for his sculpture. The resulting work is abstract yet light hearted and certainly thought provoking. Natashas personal opinion was that she liked the colours, style and layout. Jonathan felt that the colours and the pattern were intriguing whilst observing that it could be seen as quite intimidating. The reporters asked Margaret Cooke, who was visiting the library, what her response to the work was. Her favourite piece was the one entitled having all its parts and elements. The exhibition is open to the public until 7th January. Why not go and see it for yourself? Also this Christmas... Kirkby Craft and Design During December and January, Kirkby Gallery will host a tantalising display of contemporary craft and design by a host of nationally renowned talent. The work on display reveals innovative designs and explores new materials. The Crafts Council says, For millions of people, crafts are the most accessible form of artistic experience. Meanwhile, Arts Council research into arts participation has revealed that 26% of the adult population buy a craft object each year. The exhibition at Kirkby Gallery runs until 13th January. |
