Huyton Info Zone

State of the art IT facilities, free access to the internet, courses and training opportunities will all be on offer at the new Info Zone in Huyton, which was opened recently.

Phil Redmond, Chairman of Mersey TV and the brains behind Brookside and Hollyoaks, officially opened the Manor Farm Info Zone, St John’s Estate in Huyton.

He unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion and met local residents and staff as part of the event.

The Info Zone will house 14 computers and printers (all linked to the Internet) and will provide accessible IT facilities for local people of all ages and abilities. The courses available include: basic to advanced computer classes, learning skills from word processing to desk top publishing, plus there will also be children's homework clubs.

The centre will be open 6 days a week and nearly 100 people had already signed up for courses even before the official opening. It is hoped this excellent response to courses will lead to better training for local people, improved employment skills and increased job opportunities.

Local schools Sylvester’s and St Agnes’ will also be using the Info Zone as an extra IT resource throughout the year.

The Info Zone has been funded by Knowsley Council, DfEE, ICT Learning Initiative and the New Opportunities Fund. The project is co-ordinated by local residents, John Mashford and Julie Manning.

For more information about the project please call Peter Smith, Marketing Officer on 0151 443 3121.
