Huyton Today reporters Elizabeth Doran, Stephanie Kettle and Victoria Hakkesteeg provided coffee, biscuits and chat to some of the Pathways representatives at a special coffee morning in the newspaper offices recently. Joe Pottinger and John Morgan, from Bluebell and Mosscroft areas, joined the team to discuss a range of community matters in their neighbourhoods. Joe pointed out to the youngsters that, there is not enough for the youths to do, and felt, as did John, that this state of affairs could only add to problems resulting from young people suffering from boredom and a lack of interest in their surroundings. For example, the fact that there are no buses on the Mosscroft estate after 6pm is a factor in preventing young people accessing activities available. Firm links and liaison with the local police are helping and both representatives felt that concentrating efforts on the youth of the areas contributes to a better atmosphere all round. One of the important factors to emerge was that communities are taking positive action to overcome social problems; the consequences of not doing so can be seen in the mass demolition, for example, of houses in Hillside.
