Huyton Today reporter Jamie Halliwell visited the construction site that, soon, will become Knowsley Hey's City Learning Centre; a media based resource centre available to local schools and members of the community, as well as our own pupils. However, just as you cant make an omelette without breaking eggs, there is a price to pay, and the rubble that was classrooms is testimony to the efforts being made to transform ordinary classrooms into a wonderful, state-of-the-art building! A team of construction workers has been bulldozing, digging and generally moving walls and ceilings to lay the foundation work for the new building . Pupils have coped extremely well with the building chaos and disruption on the other side, here in school, but a word of warning about safety aspects is needed, according to officials at the site. They are concerned that local youngsters may face real dangers if they attempt to enter the site in any way and urge local parents to keep a watchful eye. Jamie was able to examine plans with Brian Rimmer, Contracts Manager, and chat about the progress of the construction thus far, and took photographs (adequately protected and supervised of course!) of work being carried out. These are exciting times for all connected with the school, and Headteacher Ms Mary Belchem told reporters how pleased she was that progress was so good. The resource centre will house a library, cyber café-style facility, a television studio with a virtual studio and video and sound editing studios. Keith Houghton, Site Manager, told us, there have been one or two structural hiccups but it looks as if, at the end of the day, we are starting to move forward. Brian Rimmer explained that, The structural steel should be up before Easter so floor units and roofing work can commence. Huyton Today asked pupils what they felt the new resource would mean to them. One viewpoint offered was, Im interested in a career in the media and our CLC will be a great place to start the training that Ill need. Im looking forward to making my own films and TV shows. |
