Huyton Today was recently contacted by former Huyton resident Rob Geraghty who will this year be running the London Marathon in aid of the national Society for Epilepsy. Rob is running the marathon this year in order to raise over £2500 to fund research into epilepsy. In May of last year, my girlfriend, Elize, had an epileptic seizure, says Rob. It was a frightening experience for both of us as it came out of the blue. We are now slowly coming to terms with living life with epilepsy but the answer to many of our questions has been sorry, dont know or we cant really say. It is for this reason that I have decided to raise money for the National Society for Epilepsy. The NSE tries to provide answers to such questions and its motto is Striving for a world without epilepsy - something that we would like to see. According to Robs website, he also wants to run the marathon to prove to people that nothing is impossible. Running is great exercise and although there are times when I really dont feel like going out to train, I always return invigorated. I have always been a keen sportsman and love rugby and cricket. As for running, well Id hardly say that I love it! Nevertheless, I have always wanted to run the London Marathon and, at the moment, Id say that I'm loving facing up to the challenge of preparing for it. One of the things that is dawning on me as I prepare for the London Marathon is that it is likely to be the biggest sporting event that I ever get to take part in. Im never going to be in the Olympics or know what it's like to play at Lords or Twickenham but at least by taking part in the London Marathon, Ill be able to comprehend in some small way what its like to be a professional sportsman. Already I have a focus for everything that I do and I have a goal of completing the marathon. For more information on how you can sponsor Rob in his efforts on Sunday 14th, visit the website at: www.robrunslondon.co.uk.
