Nearly 1000 children and their parents visited Nelly the Elephant and her friends in June for afternoon tea to celebrate National Childcare Month. The focus was very much on children and a host of activities and roadshows took place across Knowsley.

National Childcare Month promotes awareness of children, their needs and those of their parents. The event was organised by Knowsley’s Early Years and Childcare Partnership and included roadshows, healthy lifestyles, leisure activities and fun for the children.

Ann Bodell, Early Years and Childcare Partnership Manager, explained, “The aim is to show parents just what is on offer for them and to encourage more people, particularly mature applicants, into childcare jobs. In the next few years we will have a further six nurseries in Knowsley caring for youngsters aged 0-4 so the need for trained people will be vital.”
