Getting communities and groups to work together on art projects is just one of the tasks undertaken by Nancie Price, Environmental Artist in the Campaign Team in the Sustainability and Environmental Development Division.

“Art can be an excellent medium for bringing people together and organising them to work on projects which benefit their own communities”, said Nancie.

Recently Nancie organised parents from St.Gabriels primary school in Huyton to design and paint a mural for display in the school grounds as a permanent feature.

Parents of children at the school attended the sessions, which took place at the visitor's centre in Stadt Moers Park over a four-week period. The end result was a 6 metre wide mural depicting life in the school.

Encouraging people to take an interest in their environment through art may seem a little unorthodox to some but the demand on Nancie’s services clearly shows that Knowsley residents are only too keen to pick up a paintbrush to demonstrate their community spirit.
