North Huyton 3-Day Community Challenge

Green Apprentices with pupils from Beeckwood School

Young people from North Huyton have responded to a 3- day community challenge by transforming a youth centre, a school garden area and a roadside verge in Huyton.

The Challenge was part of the Team North Huyton, where young people in the area have enrolled on a seven-month course that combines training and work experience so as to give them a head start in the job market. The Community Challenges formed part of the 8 week Apprentice induction and provided an excellent opportunity for Apprentices to gain practical experience.

The 3 challenges they successfully completed involved the painting of The Roundabout Youth Centre, the creation of a small garden meeting area in Beechwood Primary School and the planting of a roadside verge.

The project is showing true partnership working between Green Apprentices Ltd, North Huyton New Deal for Communities (NDC) and Action for Jobs who have set up this Apprentice programme in order to address issues such as youth unemployment and environmental needs.

Dave Gilbert from Green Apprentices commented, “The Apprentices seem to have really enjoyed these community challenges and judging by the reaction in the community so far, the work has been really valued.

The continuing work of North Huyton NDC, Action for Jobs and Green Apprentices will, I am sure, demonstrate the importance we place in delivering results to the benefit of all our community.”
