Neighbourhood Network Fun Day

Slinkie LoveTo celebrate the launch of the Neighbourhood Network, a Fun Day was held on Saturday 22nd March in North Huyton. The event was a great success, with over 1000 local residents popping in to share in the fun.

The Neighbourhood Network is a community based initiative that has been set up to represent the views of local residents. Given that North Huyton New Deal for Communities (NDC) has been given £55.8 million by national government to regenerate the area, the Neighbourhood Network felt that it was the ideal opportunity for local people to have their say and to get involved in the changes that will be taking place in their community.

The Fun Day took place at the River Alt Resource Centre where there was plenty to keep all age groups amused. There were free kids’ rides, face painting, art workshops and dance from Huyton Performing Arts Group and Tulip. The five-a-side football was also a great success as it combined all local football teams and there is now talk about setting up a local football league.

Cheesy Rider

The atmosphere was set with the live radio link with KCR and live music from local bands Shiva and Immune with Lawnmower, a rhythm and blues band finishing the day. Street theatre from Slinkie Love and Cheesy Rider clearly captivated the audience from North Huyton who all thoroughly enjoyed their performances.

Billy Middleton, Chair of Neighbourhood Network commented, “We really must show our appreciation to Kevin O’Mara, the co-ordinator and to all the volunteers of the Neighbourhood Network who have put in a tremendous effort and have worked really hard to make this day a success for the community of North Huyton.”
