 S.T.A.R.T. Training

Local charity START, which provides training for young people with special needs or those who may be ex-offenders or have drug or alcohol abuse problems, has just enjoyed a funding boost from Huyton SRB. The regeneration programme has provided a vital extraction system for one of the workshops used for training.

The charity, based in Link Road in Huyton, has been established for over 20 years and provides basic skills training to clients throughout the borough of Knowsley.

START provides training in woodwork and has a well-established wood working and metal shop which is used mainly for building school libraries at a reduced cost thus easing school budgets whilst providing valuable skills training. The charity also creates security grills and gates in the metal working shop and members of the public can take advantage of the service offered by the trainees.

The new dust extraction system means that the workshop can be used for longer periods of time. Manager Patrick Burke said, “We are a rapidly expanding organisation and we wish to become a flagship training provider in Knowsley.”
