Rubber Stamp for Huytons £25m Superstore
Building work on Huytons new ASDA superstore is set to begin shortly as the final planning stages have now been completed. The new superstore is the largest retail redevelopment project in Huyton for over twenty years, creating 250 new jobs and securing the future of another 290. When complete it will be the second largest ASDA store in the UK and one of only five with two storeys of retail space. The new store is due to be completed in spring 2004. The plans not only include the construction of the new superstore but possible opportunities to bring in further retail operations through the redevelopment of the companys existing store on Derby Road in Huyton Village centre. Knowsleys Director of Development and Regeneration, Graham Smith, commented, This announcement provides the ideal platform from which to strengthen the economic viability of Huyton Village. ASDA has proved a central player in the Huyton Village retail regeneration programme and we are pleased with the news of their further commitment which will boost employment opportunities for local people. This good news follows the recent extensive physical improvements across Huyton Town Centre. These environmental improvements were part of a £2.5 million package, aimed at making Huyton a more pleasant place to shop and work. The redevelopment by ADSA will complement other multi-million pound investments which have taken place in recent years, including the Merseystravel Bus Station and the office space currently under construction on the Nutgrove Villa site. |
