Teachers in Knowsley were recently given the opportunity to sample the cutting-edge technology available in Knowsley’s three City Learning Centres during a special CLC safari.

A double-decker bus ferried the technology explorers between the CLCs situated in Huyton, Whiston and Kirkby. A range of workshops were held to demonstrate the facilities that are available to schools and members of the community.

City Learning Centres are multimedia learning facilities funded by the Department of Education and Skills and administered by the Excellence in Cities initiative. The centres in Huyton, Kirkby and Whiston and Prescot are an integral part of Knowsley’s ICT strategy which is at the heart of an innovative approach to raising standards.

The event was endorsed in Huyton CLC by soap supremo Phil Redmond who made television history on the day when he was the subject of a Michael Parkinson style interview which was beamed across the borough to several studio audiences.

Phil talked about his television work, the projects underway and developments for the future guided by searching questions from Knowsley’s very own Assistant Director of Education and Lifelong Learning, Damian Allen – aka Michael Parkinson!

After the interview, Phil said, “This facility is fabulous, very impressive. If we can inspire one young person at least to develop their skills and aptitude for this type of work, make a success for themselves and give others a chance to follow in their footsteps, then it will all be worthwhile.”
