A Flying Visit!

A Flying Visit (17KB)

Pupils from Mosscroft Primary School had a flying visit from a helicopter recently. The pilots circled the school to take aerial photographs of the school buildings.

At the same time, the pupils spelled out their welcome by forming gigantic human words. From above, the pilot could see the words ‘Mosscroft 2003,’ and this will feature on the photographs that will be offered to parents.

The helicopter landed next to the school and pupils had class photographs taken next to the aircraft. The pilots then taught the pupils about how helicopters fly before zooming off back to their helipad at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Mrs Cully, Head of Infants, organised the visit when she found the helicopter company’s website on the Internet.

“There was a lot of paper work and some safety issues to consider, but it was worth it to see the delight on the children’s faces,” said Mrs Cully. “The children were extremely excited and I would definitely invite the helicopter back, but not for a few years because of the expense,” she added.

Before the helicopter whirled its way back to base, Huyton Today’s very own high-flying reporter, Mark Meadows, took the time to ask the pilot, Tim, about the joys of flying.

“I have always wanted to fly a helicopter from a very young age. I get to see our towns, cities and countryside from incredible angles. This week we will be visiting fifteen schools. Look out for us above a school near you,” said Tim.
