Parents Win Prizes
Knowsley parents have been showing their kids exactly what theyre made of by going back to class. Over the last 12 months parents from 15 schools have been taking part in Knowsley’s family literacy and numeracy courses, aimed at helping parents take a more active and supportive role in their child’s education. Over 150 parents signed up for the courses, with over 70% achieving City and Guilds qualifications in literacy or numeracy. Many of the parents are now working towards gaining even more advanced qualifications. Their achievements were recently praised at a special presentation event, when, in addition to any City and Guilds theyve been awarded, all participants were awarded with a Family Learning certificate. Assistant Director of Education, Damian Allen said, Here in Knowsley were committed to providing learning opportunities for all, regardless of age or social barriers and these courses are helping us to achieve that goal. The next round of family literacy and numeracy courses will begin in September. For more information call 0151 443 3249.
