Pulling Together
With the help of Knowsley MBC and Merseyside Police, licencees have joined forces to keep tabs on persistent troublemakers. The first Pubwatch began in Prescot, and it is hoped in the near future the initiative will be rolled out to include Kirkby and Halewood. What is unique about Knowsleys Pubwatch is that it is completely run and controlled by local licensees. Apart from keeping tabs on rowdy revellers, Pubwatch licensee’s have also pledged to work even closer with police and the council to play a greater role in crime-busting initiatives, such as the annual drink-drive crack-down and the Crystal Clear campaign, to cut the number of glass related injuries on the streets of Merseyside. Huyton Neighbourhood Inspector, Andy Shakeshaft says, Licensees, Merseyside Police and Knowsley MBC stand united against anti-social behaviour. Pubwatch proves there’s a real commitment to being tough on troublemakers, whilst providing bar owners with a safe, confidential forum to share information about offenders. He added, The boroughs licensees have pride in their trade and when they arent shown the respect they deserve theyll be supported by the police and local authority to ensure their businesses are safe and welcoming places to relax for pub-goers. |
