Going for Glory

Youngsters from Knowsley have a chance of sporting glory at the UK Sports Festival to be held in July. Both a five-a-side football team and a full netball team are representing Knowsley at Nottingham University. Teams from all over the country are going to be involved in a range of sporting events with all their young people (aged up to 16) accommodated in Student Halls of Residence.

The two teams will be sponsored by Detached Youth, which is an SRB funded project. Detached Youth has been up and running for three years and the project has enabled twelve youth workers to work in the Huyton area under the expert guidance of Peter Tallon, Detached Youth Co-ordinator.

As winners of last season's Knowsley Detached Youth Knockout Cup, the St. John's football team has been chosen to represent the borough in Nottingham. St. John's are currently second in the league.
