Huyton Community Safety Project is a new project that aims to support and encourage residents to develop a vision for a safer Huyton whether it be actually cutting down on crime itself or helping people to overcome their fears about crime in their area. This new initiative, based at the Mardale Family Centre in Woolfall, is a pilot project that covers the ten Pathways areas and is due to last for 18 months.

Community Safety Networkers, Christine Maloney and Kevin O'Mara, are currently setting up programmes of community safety consultation and training for local adults and young people. These are aimed at increasing the levels of participation and understanding within the communities and reducing conflict between young and older people. They are in the process of identifying and recruiting local people to join crime community safety consultation groups that will consider community safety activities and work to improve the safety of vulnerable sites.

Christine Maloney told Huyton Today, "We want to hear from individuals and organisations throughout Huyton who have a concern or an interest in crime and community safety. The project is about community participation - the views of groups and individuals are an important part of the process. Training is informal and done at your own pace. Childcare costs will be provided and transport can be arranged."

Anyone interested in taking part in the consultation groups, or receiving training in community safety issues should contact Christine or Kevin on 0151 481 0494.
