What is HERT?

HERT stands for Huyton Environment Round Table. The group was formed to bring together members of the community and professionals who are concerned with environmental issues in Huyton. Environmental activities and issues are discussed and problems are tackled together.

This newsletter is to involve and inform you, our partners, what is happening and how you can become involved in making the environment in Huyton a better place for all of us to live and work. It will also be an opportunity for you to voice your opinions about local issues and how we can work together on solutions. HEaRT will be what you want to make it, so please get in touch with any of the groups or take part in any of the activities inside. So, read on...

If you live in the Huyton area and are interested in representing your community’s views then please contact Tracy Gordon on 0151 443 2237.

The senders of the first ten letters commenting on or contributing to the HEaRT newsletter will receive a free packet of wildflower seeds suitable for your garden. These seeds have been kindly donated by Landlife who have planted wildflowers across Huyton and Knowsley.

Flower Power!

Dawn Holmes is the Officer for Knowsley funded through KMBC and Huyton SRB to develop environmental projects with the community. Projects range from the creation of a herb border and wildflower area at Bluebell Lane Scout Hut (pictured) to creating a garden at Trinity Church with parishioners, and planting colourful flowers at the Gateway Club.

So whether you have an idea already or just a neglected piece of land then why not get in touch on 0151 423 4433.

Environmental Advisory Service

This organisation, partly funded by Knowsley Council, provides specialist advice on a whole range of environmental issues. Recently they helped write a new leaflet for the borough all about Knowsley’s “Earth Heritage”.

If you look in the driveway of the former Community Centre off Bluebell Lane (adjacent to St Michael’s Church) you will see exposures of wonderful examples of Triassic Wilmslow Sandstone. It dates back to a time even before the first dinosaurs.

If you would like to find out more about Knowsley’s natural heritage phone 0151 443 2277 for a leaflet.
