Green Fingers!

Huyton with Roby C of E Primary School have begun a Garden Club for children in Years 2-6 to establish and maintain a brand new garden in the centre of the school.

The difficult business of clearing rubble and stones has been done by Dawn Holmes, Knowsley Youth and Community Project Officer and volunteers from the New Deal Programme. Dawn has secured a grant from SRB for the purchase of arches, trellis, planters, topsoil and plants.

The children have now begun weeding and sowing seeds.

So many children wanted to join the club that membership only lasts for half a term so that everybody has the opportunity to get grubby!

Mrs Holmes told Huyton Today, “We are making a ‘four seasons’ garden that will encourage insects and birds to visit the protected site. All the children in the school will have the opportunity to visit the garden with their teachers. We are looking forward to seeing our garden grow.”
