Good News for Training

Working with Huyton Community Partnership, Mercia Partnership are currently making a big impact in the area for unemployed people in Huyton.

Mercia is a non-profit making organization which started in 1998, dedicated to providing “professional level” training locally. Funding sources include URBAN and Huyton SRB and with Huyton Community Partnership they are offering opportunities for unemployed Huyton residents to learn and increase their skills for today’s job market.

Courses are free and by providing childcare, transport and materials the training is available for those with young ones or any other caring responsibilities. The centre in Hall Lane is the first of ten satellites being opened by Huyton Community Partnership across Huyton.

Local resident Phillipa Bird attends one day per week. She told us that she really enjoys her training sessions and feels it is an important and valuable use of her time. “I want to do this so that I have something to offer when I look for a job,” she explained.

Average courses last 12 to 20 weeks and the centre is staffed by friendly, helpful and well qualified trainers like Ann and Jacquie.

Ann Saxon told us, “we are trying to get people into employment – IT is the future now.”

Jaccquie Deacon explained how the system works. “We would establish requirements initially with an action plan, then produce a development pack to enable all individuals to learn at their own pace.”

Prior achievements and learning will also be integrated wherever possible.
