A New Deal for Local Communities

What is the deal for communities?

A programme which offers large-scale government funds to help turn around poor neighbourhoods. Its aims are to:

  • Improve local services, facilities and job prospects.
  • Reduce levels of crime and improve educational achievement.
  • Improve health

How much and how long?

Funding is long term, (up to ten years), and can target as much as £50 million at specific areas which would benefit from support the most. This money also attracts large sums of money from other places.

Which areas?

The Fincham, Woolfall Heath and Hillside areas are being put forward in a bid for New Deal for Communities money.

If the bid is successful, it would mean big change, and the chance to develop a more positive future for people living in these neighbourhoods and surrounding areas.

Who will run it?

A local partnership, involving residents, local businesses, community and voluntary groups, as well as public bodies like the Council, Police and Health agencies.

The partnership will need to show that by working together it can develop solid plans for making real change in the area.

How can people get involved?

Local people need to be at the heart of plans for a change, to ensure the funding.

Initially, we are asking people already active in the community to give us their views, this will help us to put in a bid for funds.

There will then be a period of around 12 months to be spent producing more detailed plans for change, giving everyone a chance to have their say and get actively involved.

There will be lots of different ways to play a part - it doesn’t mean having to go to lots of meetings!
