Street Play

Huyton Today investigated the continuing efforts of the staff at Street Play to try to discover the nature of the organisation. Street Play was established in 1995 when KMBC saw the necessity for a structured play scheme within the borough, and has progressed from there.

Currently operating for five days a week at various locations, Street Play now offers the chance for over 150 children a week to take part in structured play sessions. Trained staff and volunteers aim to make the sessions fun and interesting for all. Concentrating on arts, crafts and team games Street Play is currently working towards the Easter Parade (22nd April) and the Summer Parade (19th August), both at King George V Playing Fields, Huyton.

Activities at the Street Play sessions include: Face Painting, Clay Model making, ball games and Treasure Hunts.

Children of all ages are welcome to participate in the Street Play activities (under 8’s must be accomanied by an adult). The level of supervision is appropriate to the number of children and they learn as they play in a very informal atmosphere with the emphasis on FUN, FUN, FUN. Sessions for children are free, however a minimal charge applies where the activity involves an entrance fee or special transport requirements.

The Street Play sessions take place Monday to Friday at the following venues:

  • Monday: Bakers Green Under 8’s; Shepton Road; Sleaford Road 4 - 6pm
  • Tuesday: Ironside (Starting after Easter); Nyland Road; Woolfall (At the Roundabout Centre)
  • Wednesday: Longview; Hillside Avenue; Fincham Road
  • Thursday: Wimbourne Road; Cotsford Way (after Easter); Bakers Green over 8’s
  • Friday: Lordens Road; Huyton Mums and Tots
