Sure Start comes to Huyton

Families in Hillside, Woolfall Heath and Fincham are set to benefit from a windfall of up to £2.5million to improve the health and development of children under the age of four.

The Sure Start programme is a Government funded initiative aimed at promoting the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of children, to make sure they are ready to thrive when they go to school.

Based on the three estates, the Sure Start programme will build on existing services to provide a range of childcare, early education and play facilities, primary health care for children and their families, advice and support for parents and other additional services to respond to identified local needs.

Services will be delivered both from a central base and outreach, home visiting facility and will be available to all families in the catchment areas with a child under four.

Barnardos is the lead agency for Sure Start in Knowsley. Programme Manager Breeda McQuillan told Huyton Today, “As Programme Manager, my role is to ensure that the path Sure Start takes is a genuine empowerment of local communities, which will determine its success for generations to come.”
