Weekend Events at Knowsley Festival

The finest weather of the year brought out crowds for the launch of Knowsley’s Millennium Cultural Festival with over 2000 people gathering at Higherside Community Comprehensive School for the Whiston Millennium Summer Show. With entertainment throughout the day in the main arena, coupled with a talent competition, line dancing, craft fair, assault course and sports activities, the event was a huge success. It was opened by Knowsley’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Tommy Russell and several town mayors took part in the street procession to the sounds of a concertina band and Morris dancers. Millennium 10k Race The Millennium 10k race, an annual event in Knowsley, saw over 120 runners braving the sweltering temperatures on the 18th of June to compete for this coveted title at Halewood Park. Patrick Cousins from Liverpool claimed first past the post with a time of 38 mins 51 secs. 76 year old Geoff Perkins came in 63rd position in under an hour. The first female to cross the winning line was Lorraine Reynolds. The event was sponsored by Barclaycard. The festival ‘free draw’ for two tickets to ‘New York’ courtesy of Continental Airlines was won by Doug Hibbs from Halewood - LUCKY DOUG!!! Photo Gallery
