Knowsley Hey Newspaper Day 2000

On Tuesday 20th June, year 9 pupils at Knowsley Hey abandoned their normal timetable to become newspaper reporters for a day.

The big story of the day was the hijacking of an aeroplane at Liverpool Airport by LIMP, The Liverpool Independence for the Millennium Party. Amongst their demands were the election of Ken Dodd for president, the introduction of “scouse” passports and protection for the local jam butty industry!

Guests and pupils caught up with the story as it unfolded during what was a very busy day for everyone, especially the guests who played the parts of the Home Secretary, a stewardess from the plane, the sister of one of the victims on the plane and community policeman Steve Taylor playing himself!

Pressure built up as the deadline approached at the end of the day.

Everyone worked very hard and there were smiles and relief all round as each group completed their target of creating a 4-page newspaper.
