MBE for local teacher
|
Georgina Webber, a teacher at Sacred Heart RC Primary School in Kirkby, has been awarded an MBE in the Queens birthday honours list. Working as a teacher in Knowsley for nearly 20 years, Georgina was awarded the honour for her services to education in raising standards generally and for her work to improve literacy in particular. Georgina told Huyton Today, When I received the letter from the Prime Ministers office informing me of the award, I couldnt believe it. I am part of a team working very hard at Sacred Heart School to raise standards and I could not understand why I should be singled out. I am absolutely delighted for myself and my family, the school, the parents and the community. The reaction to the announcement has been overwhelming. The school are thrilled and the pupils, although not fully understanding the award, are full of awe that I am going to meet the Queen. It is something very special for them. In the two weeks since the announcement was first made, Georgina has been inundated with messages of congratulation from colleagues, friends and council officials. She told us, It has been a truly wonderful time; one I will never forget. I am really looking forward to buying the hat for my visit to Buckingham Palace. |
