Pupils at St Aloysius RC Primary are now enjoying an even earlier start to their day thanks to the new Breakfast Club. The club, run by Learning Mentor Elaine Layock and General Teaching Assistants Sue and Pat, is open to all pupils at the school. There are currently 50 pupils taking advantage of the club which takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The club began as an initiative to help year 6 pupils prepare for the SATs exams but, thanks to funding from the Governments New Opportunities Fund, has now become a regular part of the school day. Parents pay £2.50 a week towards costs (family rates available). Pupils attending the club have the opportunity to play with friends and enjoy a hearty breakfast before their lessons. Club organiser Elaine Laycock told Huyton Today, The idea is to help improve punctuality and attendance, but the club also offers an opportunity to have breakfast and play with friends. Teaching staff tell us that pupils who attend the club are more settled in class. The club is very popular with the pupils who attend. As one told Huyton Today, Its great because we don’t have to stand out in the rain and the cold.
