Earlier this term, Year 7 pupils got a taste of things to come as part of their ‘induction’ to Knowsley Hey. From September all pupils in years 7, 8, and 9 have been receiving a ‘Headstart’ enrichment lesson, that aims to develop pupils’ understanding of how they learn and how they can improve the quality of their learning.

Over recent months the Local Education Authority has been developing a borough wide programme of ‘Accelerated Learning’, involving training days for Primary and Secondary school teachers and pupils. Knowsley Hey is at the forefront of this initiative, with pupils benefiting in all subject areas.

The day proved to be a hit with the pupils as they got to know each other, their new Form tutors and their new school. They were involved in a wide variety of activities designed to be both educational and entertaining.

In groups they made models of their own brains, produced ‘wish trees’ with their aspirations providing the leaves, learned how their minds worked and even potted class plants to develop shared responsibility.

The day was organised and led by Iain Dow (Teaching and Learning Consultant for Knowsley Local Education Authority).
