Malvern Primary School Celebrates 50th Anniversary
|
Malvern Primary School in Huyton has celebrated 50 years of school and community life by creating a Living Museum. The museum display, open to the public, showed a collection of artefacts and memorabilia from each of the past five decades of the schools history. Open to the public during the evenings, the museum was very well attended. Visitors from the community and other schools were treated to an impressive selection of materials including, a piece of the Berlin Wall, old records and magazines. Children at the school had also built a large selection of models and displays, including a Saturn V rocket, one of Dr Whos Daleks and ET. Headteacher, Christine Kinsella, is delighted with the museum. I am overwhelmed by the tremendous effort and hard work that has gone into the organisation of the museum and the fun day. However, I shouldn't be surprised as staff, pupils and parents at Malvern always work together for the benefit of the whole community, she said. Pupils from the school joined the celebrations by having a Fun Day on the 28th June. Entertainment was provided by clowns whilst the children competed in a rounders tournament with the winning team playing a team of teachers. The Fun Day ended with a reunion party held in the school hall. Two hundred and thirty former staff and pupils attended the event, including a former Headteacher and one ex-pupil who flew in from New York especially for the occasion. Mrs Kinsella told Huyton Today, We had a wonderful evening and could have sold twice as many tickets. I was especially pleased to see so many former members of staff. We also had many ex-pupils whose grandchildren are now at the school. Building work due to commence A busy time lies ahead for Malvern School with new building work commencing soon. Staff and pupils hope to be able to move into their new school in September 2003. Watch this space for more news...
